Slain/State of Filth-split 7"

A split ep with two obscure bands from United Kingdom. I know only a few about State of Filth, they were from Preston Lancashire and they released this split w Slain and the split cdr w Anarchy Spanky plus some contributions in compilations such as The Boredom And The Bullshit 7" (1996, Refusenik Rec.s w Manfat, One by One and others) and More Noise By Nice Boys 7" (1997,Existence Decay ., Insane Society Rec.s). I know absolutely nothing about Slain, all i know is they were from Aberdeen, if you can add some information about both bands please drop a line,
This split came out in 1998 on Enslaved Records and Smack in the Mouth Records, it comes in gatefold cover with lyrics for both bands but unfortunately there is no any other info. The way Slain lyrics are printed gives false picture of track list but the vocals are clear enough so you can understand whats going on. There are thirteen tracks that hardly last over a minute each (11 minutes total running time), music wise this is a crazy blending of hardcore and grindcore : Slain deliver crazy hardcore with hyperspeed outbreaks and insane male/female vocals while State of Filth are more heavier and sometimes they touch the grind fields.

The UK is where it is it at my fellow Blogger, unfortunately most the bands have not been able to use mass media and other tools which give rise to fame in the UK, good post, I always come here to get some obscure artist who I have never heard of and grow to love. That was meant more as a compliment and not as a insult, this is the blog to go to, to get in touch with the real underground.

The Slain side is the best I think

Toxik each band has its own feeling, i d prefer the grinding parts of SoF :)
Orthodoxyn thanks for your kind words, nowadays there is internet and myspace, lastfm etc and bands can promote their music, back in 90's a band could make a website but in this case none of both bands has any, and its truth some really really goods bands stayed in the shadow

Slain had a demo called In Blood and that was pretty much the extent of their discography.

Skater played drums in Bloodshot and Ebola briefly, Mark recorded several tapes as Ism and sang in Bloodshot.

I can't remember any of the other bands Mel was in but i do remember her drumming in an all girl punk band that sounded like the Mau Maus at times, wish i could remember their name.

Mel's previous band was called AKTI-FIST, an all female anarcho punk band, they had a demo tape called "Cider Sluts". Bass player Morag was in the early 90s incarnation of OI POLLOI, singer Louise would resurface in the band BASTARD SON OF FUD (few members of whom went on to become FASTARD) The guitarist Rags would also show up again in a short lived band called VERSIFICATOR.

With SLAIN, Mark has regrouped his original band ISM with a different lineup and have a myspace account. Drummer skater is no longer playing in any bands.

The only other SLAIN recording is some practice tapes, one of which had some tracks they would have recorded for a split with a band called E471 (or something like that), had they not broke up the band after their UK tour.

ISM have about 4 or 5 demo tapes, Bloodshot have 3 demos (2 with Mark and Skater)...

RIP The aberdeen scene...
