Patareni/Cripple Bastards-split 7"

This is the split of legendary italian grinders Cripple bastards with the croatian grind pioneers Patareni, released back in 1994 on Regurgitated Semen Records. About 500 copies were made (Davor from Patareni claims about 700 copies).
Patareni contribute six tracks of their brutal old school grindcore(plus an intro and an outro) including two covers (Misfits and Extreme Noise Terror), i really don't know if the rest tracks are original or covers. Cripple Bastards offer six tracks too in the vein of "Life's built on thoughts 7", covering King Crimson's 21st Century schizoid man and Indigesti's "Mass media"(indigesti were a hardcore band from Italy in early 80's), according to inlay's text, these tracks were recorded in CB's rehersal room in autum of '93.
There is a 10" re-release of this on Havin' A Spazz Records with some bonus tracks(21 tracks in tracklist) and some artwork differences.
There are some conflicting feelings inside me about posting a CB record:They would never be considered as political band and there is some bullshit about them floating around the web.. i don't know..
Tracklist:
Patareni:
1. Intro
2. Last caress (Misfits)
3. Murder(Extreme Noise Terror)
4. Ich gehe zur schule
5. Bomba
6. Fuck y.o.u.
7. Kill the boys.. '85
8. Outro
Cripple Bastards
1. Life in general
2. Disagreeable selections
3. 21st century schizoid man(King Crimson)
4. Hydrophobic web
5. Mass media(Indigesti)
6. Grimcorpses

Thanks. I've hear people comment negatively about CB before, but I've never actually heard any direct allegations other than them being dropped from a show at ABC No Rio due to an album cover. Anyway, they're at least as political as Spazz ;)

"21st Century Schizoid Man" is quite a popular song for HC bands to cover (Rorschach and Contropotere each did a version...)

Two powerful bands splitting a 7", too little for them, hahaha so they had to reissue as a 10".

Anonymous said...

the split rips, but CB has some bad rep because of the dumb shit the singer says..he seems like a total nationalist asshole.

yes, i know about this, they also were accused for been misogynists, ignorant and having a link of a serbian right wing group in their web site, i checked it but i didn't find anything there, but there is no smoke sceen without fire behind so from all this shit something must be true.. i never really cared about them, i don't like them, Parareni is the only
reason for them to pe posted here

yes, the singer is a fuckin' chetnik.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chetnik
he always wear shirts of this serbian nationalist/fascist group. the chetniks want a big serbian state without other ethnic groups. in ww2 they did brutal massacres on non-serbian people. and they were also collaborated with nazi-germany.
death to cripple bastards!

here the singer with that shirt

Hey, man...this about Guilio. He has his label up and running at www.eu91serbianleague.com - he worships war criminal Arkan and his wife Ceca.

To explain to you more about Ceca - imagine a really distorted version of the most nasty pop singer in the world, and you're still not there. Ceca and her fans are ALL AGAINST PUNK or any other form of rock'n'roll.

Guilio is a fuck-up - I'm not listening to Cripple Bastards because of him. Problem is that if his bandmates are OK guys, they should fuck him off. Fuck all the CB legacy he has...he should be either kicked out or thought a lesson in a way. Anyway, he'll never play in Bosnia, at least not in my town, Sarajevo!

Cheers, your blog is beautiful!

Hey Sharan, we're both aware of the controversy around Guilio's label. I think Billy made it clear that he himself has mixed feelings about posting CB here (see the end of the post) & that Patareni is the reason this is posted here, in fact. The same issue came up pretty strongly in Malisha's blog these last few days, see http://rockin-noiz.blogspot.com/2008/11/impact-82-85-lp.html . I'm all against such antics & I know that Billy is too, but talk about Guilio being taught a lesson or about what his band should do w/ him leaves me cold, sorry - he's entitled to his own, repulsive to me, opinions just as I'm entitled to mine. The real issue is whether this should be posted here, though. &, seeings as the lyrics spread no hate or are no propaganda for the Chetniks, I believe there's no real conflict. This is not to say that I don't sympathize w/ your point of view - I's shred Guilio to pieces (*verbally*) if I happened to know him...

i thought i had already deleted the download link when some months ago i erased the older links but i was wrong...
Whispy has already told what i have to say. this record is here because of Patareni, i dont like CB and i never did and yes i know i could post only Patareni tracks: but always and in each post we want the complete record with all tracks and artwork. Furthermore CB is not only this asshole., ok?

Completely understood what you two guys are saying. I understand everything, but I look at this this way - if you're holding a Nazi in your band who is openly displaying his orientation about other people - then something ain't wrong with you. Ignorance is stupidity.

Post the music over here. I really don't think you're into Nazism/FAscism/any other form of discrimination because you post some kind of music over here. I enjoy this blog very much, was, I am and will be regular visitor. For fuck sake, this blog educated me! :)

Cheers from Bosnia, Sharan

Obviously it is clear to me that everyone posting doesn't have a clue about what they speak. I've been listening to CB for a long time, as a matter of fact the first grindcore album I ever bought which got me into the whole genre was the Cripple Bastards/Praparation-H split. Sure it's easy to go on a rant about something when it is unclear the reason behind the entire ordeal. If you don't listen to CB and read their lyrics it is quite easy for me to understand why people whould think this way about GTB ( Guilio The Bastard ). Anyone to call them misogynist clearly doesn't listen to them or read their lyrics. The first song off the first album I heard by them there is a song called " Sexist Society...Must Destroy It!! "
Lyrics: You try to consolidate people's infedelities...
sex seen as a dope-type recreation, an inalienable diversion..
..or a technique to exalt the nearly always trampled female ego.
"She feels reborn..." ...in the guise of a fucking bitch.
A parallel form of humiliation, in fact (this time) self-humiliation.
And your pseudo-pornographic freedom won't stand up.
Next door.
Your profit's results spread like wildfire...
The last uncontaminated feelings... ???thrown away,
spit down, straight down to your packed-out W.C.
Love, friendship, respect, sincerity... ???out of fashion.
Sometimes I need someone to embrace,
not necessarily someone to fuck.
Next door.
Your shitty sexist propaganda...
sponsored by falsity, exhibitionism and mental backwardness.
But now... now I can feel the strongest will joining my rage,
the will of smashing this shit down, the will of voicing my dissent
against your ignorance and mediocrity,
the will of screamin' till I see blood pouring from my mouth...:
MUST DESTROY THIS SEXIST SOCIETY!!
MUST DESTROY IT!!!!!!!!!!!
This album cover has a bunch of pornographic magazines on it, the words surrounding say: Freedom of expression or freedom of degradation? They do shit like this all the time.

Their album "Almost Human" depicted a woman being forced to give a blow job with a gun to her head. If you go to their website you might understand. GTB's quote about this subject: "Almost human has been the source of many international scandals due to its crude, merciless front-cover art. The choice of using such an explicit concept came from GTB (with Curby/Obscene's approval) after viewing a movie called "Forced Entry" - the story of a Viet-vet affected by psychosexual compulsions driving him to rape and murder defenceless women. Watching the infamous blowjob scene GTB and Curby agreed this was something never seen before and despite the consequences it would have brought, it had to be used as the cover of an extreme band as CB. It had to be an experiment to see how would have the scene reacted to such a thing. Here's anyway how GTB explained the relation between title and blowjob pic: "the basic idea was human insensivity, the progressive decay of feelings and emotions in modern man's ethics, in few words.. the loss of humanity of humans in the contemporary world, sentimental decay becoming a norm, a standard imposed from above thru medias, education, sexual inputs we get thru TV, ads, stratification of society. The title "Almost human" gives a sense to that cover art. It's a portrait of human degradation, the "almost human" status is the modern man's current condition, a parallel world of insensivity gradually replacing what according to us was our real nature and identity of human beings. If someone reads the CB lyrics one by one he/she'll certainly get a clear idea of what it's all about and will certainly figure out that the cover of our CD is obviously NOT meant to inspire rape, sexual control or sexism of any form. CB is just a band expressing negativity without taking a specific political stance. The "Almost human" CD is all about giving a portrait of human degradation, insensibility, feelings and naturalness being castrated by a hallucinating reality of abuse, indifference, resignation".
The facts: Cripple Bastards have been disallowed to play at ABC No Rio in NYC due to this CD cover because the kids running that venue didn't get any message and thought it was a mere expression of machoism and rape. Besides this, CB have been often labelled as an ignorant, sexist outfit and banned from tons of places, boycotted and stabbed in the back by the whole @punk community that years before used to repute them as an example of correctness. Viewing things from a distance, today - we can simply say that the "Almost human" CD has been a good idiocy- detector and somehow helped us to get rid of a huge part of that scene doing witchhunt against anything differing from the list of rules they need to conform to be coerhent and "socially aware". In few words: those who were so stupid not to catch the message - they simply turned their backs, those who really understood what CB is all about - they went on following what we do". So all I have to say for the people posting on this blog: Before you condemn a band for being too Un-PC do some research.

7inchcrust said...

i will speak for myself and i hope people who were involved in this discussion will enter and say a few things: we always do some research about the bands we post here, CB is not my cup of tea not because of all these rumors but because of their grind shit that i don't like, so i never really cared if all these rumors are truth or just gossip, that's why i say "i have conflicting feelings about the record". i know this kind of provoking attitude, lyrics and cover artworks that some bands use to irritate the "pc close-minded punx" but here looks like the global scene is almost full of idiots who can't get the truth and reject CB...this is weird to me...
but you didn't say anything about the political ideals of Marco, there is a link in a comment above,a lot of saying about connection with extreme right wing org, the worship of a (now dead) paramillitar and such shit,do you know and would you like to say something about it?
thank you

I'm a libertarian, fuck the right wing and the left wing all the same.
As far as the whole political ideals and or if fascism or nationalism is what Guilio truely believes in, those questions should be sent to him via his label/email. I occasionally listen to Nationalist metal/hardcore and also have hispanic and jewish friends. Matter of fact, my father was non-existant my whole life and I was in a way adopted by my mother's Puerto Rican boyfriend as a child and consider him to this day as my "real" dad. Music is music, and I feel that the whole politically correct moronic imbecils should realise this fact. I don't listen to some nationalist music on occasion because I in any way promote or believe in what they stand for, they just happen to make some good music.

Humanitys' Splurged Conscience said...

Most of it is in German and I can't understand what they say anyway. Blah! It's music, get over it.

Humanitys' Splurged Conscience said...

By the way, If it weren't for that first CB album with all the over the top grumbling growls and wretched vocals I wouldn't have gotten into grindcore, Thanx CB! Check out CB/Praparation-H split, and you might just like CB a bit more than not at all.

7inchcrust said...

looks like i m one of those "politically correct moronic imbecils" who believe that when a singer wears on a nationalistic related t-shirt in band's gigs then its not a personal matter and the band is connected with this nationalistic crap.
to set things clear: i don't say CB is or was a fascist / nationalistic band but the fact is Julio used the band to promote such ideals and the rest of the members didn't give a shit about it, this is the deal..
once again i meet this "its only music, get over it" this is a big discussion and will lead to nowhere. but as a "politically correct moronic imbecil" i can't get over it:the same way i reject nationalistic/nazi/whatever ideals the same way way i reject their culture in music and elsewhere, its not only music when is related with politics.i know what happened to ex-Yugoslavia, i know who Arkan was and i can't get over, maybe is a matter of "politically correct moronic imbecil" but i dont give a shit
and something last and related with the provoking shit of CB:local scenes and the global scene as a whole is a mirror of the world:you will find nice people, crappy people,narrow-minded and ignorant, smart and intelligent etc. when the boots of authority step on society and a part of the scene keeps focusing in witch hunt of bands (such as CB) then this part of the scene is a little confused, when authority steps on civil rights, working class rights, freedom of speech etc and a band insists on sexist matters just to provoke then this band is confused too

nico said...

well, it looks that either me or otrher people are confused with the "libertarian" definition.
in this case, there are a bunch of "politicaly correct moronic imbeciles", also including myself.
its quite clear that it's not only about music, and its the blog author's way of thinking and feeling, and me and many people share this feelings and thougths.
there are facts that prove that gtb promoted fascism/nationalism, or am i wrong? so what if they had anti-sexist lyrics? there are bunch of bands that play both ways, so i prefer to avoid this kind of bands, as i avoid fascism/nationalism in all of its ways. and the idea is to fight them, not only to avoid them. so, its quite clear who has to get over it

I want to post this piece of interview to Giulio The Bastard to clarify this situation a little more.

They asked his opinion on a few points, and when the turn comes to Nazis and nationalism here is the answer.

G. NAZIS, NATIONALISM, RACISM

SHIT, THIS KIND OF QUESTIONS ARE SO GENERIC. I SHOULD TELL YOU "ALL RACISTS, NAZIS, NATIONALISTS SUCK" AND THAT'S ALL. SO FAR AS I HAVE MY OWN SPECIFIC VIEW ON EVERYTHING, WELL… I DISLIKE NAZIS AND THEIR WHOLE IDEOLOGY, BUT IF WE TALK ABOUT SKINHEADS I CAN TELL THAT I HATE EQUALLY THE RACIST ONES AS THE SHARP, BECAUSE THEY'RE EQUALLY IGNORANT AND DUMB… OR BETTER, I CAN EVEN TELL YA THAT IN MY LIFE I MET MORE NAZI SKINS WITH BALLS + A TRACE OF "LIGHT" IN THE EYES, THAN THOSE IN THE HUGE MASS OF OI! LEFT-WINGERS AROUND. OK, MY OPINION AT THE END OF ALL IS THAT THEY'RE ALL A BUNCH OF IDIOTS, BLINDED BY THEIR BACKWARDED MINIMALISTIC BEHAVIOURS. WITH THIS I'M TALKING ABOUT RACISTS, NAZIS, + ALL SORTS OF SKINHEADS. AS FOR NATIONALISM… IN MOST CASES IT SUCKS, BUT WHEN IT'S RELATED TO SIMPATHY FOR A DOWNTROTTEN COUNTRY, IT MAY BE POSITIVE. I FEEL TO APPROVE NATIONALISM IN A COUNTRY LIKE SERBIA BECAUSE IN THE LAST YEARS THEY'VE BEEN DAMAGED OVER AND OVER BY USA'S ARROGANT POLICY OF INTERVENTION IN OTHER NATIONS' AFFAIRS (THE WHOLE WORLD HAD TO CRY AND BE SHOCKED AFTER THE TWINTOWERS DESTRUCTION, BUT WHO THE FUCK EVER THOUGH HALF A SECOND ABOUT ALL YUGOSLAVIAN CIVILIANS THAT DIED UNDER NATO BOMBINGS IN BEOGRAD, NOVI SAD ETC??) + BY FAKE NATO PROPAGANDA + ALBANIAN TERRORISM AND A LOT OF OTHER INJUSTICES; SO ACCORDING TO ME IT'S OK TO HAVE A SPIRIT OF LOVE AND PRIDE FOR SUCH AN ABUSED COUNTRY. I'M OF BALKANIAN ORIGINS AND I FULLY BELIEVE IN THIS MATTER… CALL ME A CHETNIK, I DON'T MIND!

Anonymous said...

Crippe Bastards their singer supports racist massmurders such as Arkan ... he is outspoken a Chetnick (extreme-rightwing , violent & racist movement). please do not support. they can play Blood & Honour concerts perhaps instead of squats.

@ the kid who posted the post-modern twist CB gives to their sexist/pro-rape images... The singer has beat up women in real life. So I don't know how many books they'll have to write to justify that.
